Bedford Borough Council is thrilled to announce the success of the recent weekend event. Thousands of visitors came together from near and far for an unforgettable experience. With an estimated attendance of 30,000 people, the event showcased a mix of kites, vehicles, food and drink, water sports, music, and family fun.

Over the course of the weekend, a wide range of exciting activities and attractions captivated visitors. Approximately 300 magnificent vehicles from both the past and present were displayed across the site. In Russell Park, 30 mesmerising kite fliers representing both the UK and overseas, added a colourful spectacle to the event.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said, "It was an absolute pleasure to witness the great weekend that was had by all who attended. The incredible turnout of 30,000 visitors demonstrates the enduring community spirit and enthusiasm in our borough.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support we received from our sponsors, the dedication of the performers, and the hard work of all involved in organising this outstanding event. We look forward to continuing to create memorable experiences for our residents of Bedford Borough and visitors in the future."

The event also played host to almost 100 trade stands and concessions, providing a diverse range of goods and services for visitors to explore and enjoy. From local businesses and charities to artisan vendors, there was something for everyone, further enhancing the lively atmosphere of the event.

It was lovely to see people bringing a picnic to the park or alongside the river while enjoying the free entertainment on show, and the free water refill stations across the site people meant that visitors could stay hydrated in the hot weather.

The musical performances at the bandstand, new for this year, proved really popular. There was music from the Bedford Town Concert Brass, Kempston Hammers Community Choir, Sax's Cool, and MK Brass, captivating the audience with their talent and engaging melodies. The dragon boat races, another addition to this year’s programme, organised by Sue Ryder, saw ten teams fiercely competing for victory. We congratulate The Skippers from Paul Riches Skips, who emerged as the champions, showcasing their remarkable teamwork and dedication throughout the thrilling races.

The SEND area provided a welcoming and inclusive space, ensuring that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities could fully participate and enjoy the festivities. Meanwhile, the Green Earth Lounge delighted attendees with its delectable vegan options, local bands, and a chilled-out space to relax.
