Harpur Sculptures One Great Day of Entertainment

08 July 2019

The Harpur Centre team have been raising money for two fantastic children’s charities, Great Ormond Street Hospital and local children’s charity, St Francis Children’s Society.

Coinciding with the nationwide One Great Day fundraising activities, the Harpur Centre hosted a unique event where visitors were given the chance to win a brilliant prize whilst supporting two fantastic causes. From Friday 28th June until Monday 1st July, a stunning ice sculpture appeared on the mall as part of the fundraising activities for One Great Day.

The ice sculpture containing Harpur’s “Heart” as the centrepiece was situated on the mall from Friday 28th June.  Shoppers were then invited to guess the length of time it would take for the ice to melt enough to reveal the heart and the person with the closest guess would win an amazing prize kindly donated by the Centre’s retailers. An astonishing 86 shoppers pledged their guesses and the results are now in…the ice sculpture took a whopping 2 days, 15 hrs and 38 mins to melt! Lucky winner, Tammy Bailey from Bedford, guessed a close 2 days, 16 hours and 32 minutes. – bagging themselves the prize.

PLUS, the Harpur Centre’s visitors also had the opportunity to transform themselves at a fabulous face painting and glitter tattoo station in exchange for a small donation between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 29th June. The Centre team collected donations on the mall to go towards the commendable children’s charities, Great Ormond Street Hospital and St Francis’ Children’s Society.

Samantha Laycock, Centre Manager at the Harpur Centre, commented: “The Harpur Centre team were delighted to take part in OGD for the first time. It’s important for us as a Centre to host free events which are not only fun for all the family but also allow us to champion two great causes and give back to the community we live in. We thoroughly enjoyed inviting our wonderful visitors to help us in raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and St Francis’ Children’s Society and we are so grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
