Plans have been shared this week to completely renovate the Harpur Centre.
The aim of the new design is to complement and add to the setting of the historic buildings, which include the Grade II listed Eastern façade.
Plans include bringing shop fronts forward to create more internal space, as well as creating lightweight glazed units at the Midland Road and Horne Lane frontages. Proposals are to remove the Harpur Centre’s famous spiral and to replace it with a glass lift and stairs. This should allow a lot more natural light into the centre including the basement areas.
