Keep Christmas cash local

29 September 2016

Gift vouchers which allow independents to benefit alongside big name brands are exclusively available in town thanks to the Business Improvement District (BID).

BedfordBID, one of the ground-breaking 12 self-funding business groups formed in the UK in 2005, pioneered the voucher scheme which has put nearly £1,000,000 into local tills during the last decade.

Originally sold through the Tourist Information Centre, the vouchers can now be bought on-line by individuals and organisations who want to back town businesses via the leading local website lovebedford.co.uk

BID Director Christina Rowe said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer our vouchers via this easy and safe system to those who simply do not or cannot shop locally, or to companies who want to reward staff or clients in the lead-up to Christmas.

“By buying Love Bedford vouchers they know the money is going into the local economy and any of 270 businesses who are signed up the scheme can benefit.

“The first delivery of £20, £10, and £5 vouchers went out in September to a satisfied customer so the system is up and away.

“Bedford College has a huge supporter of the scheme buying the lion’s share of the vouchers so far. We would love other companies to back Bedford in the same way.

“Significant numbers are bought by individuals who can now pop into the Bedford Swan Hotel reception to buy vouchers over the counter. The arrangement with the Bedford Swan Hotel is in keeping with its reputation as a VIP Visitor attraction for both local people and international travellers and celebrities.

“Of course we want people to come into the town centre and enjoy a coffee, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner but we know that some people lead such busy lives that shopping on-line is the answer. By buying Love Bedford vouchers they are supporting independent businesses which help keep the town special for the days they do want to pop and shop with us.

“Only the BedfordBID voucher scheme is open to independents, who are excluded from other nationwide gift schemes, so by making sure you buy into the Love Bedford brand you are backing local businesses.”
