Outdoor theatre and film fun for all the family this summer

Bedford Business Improvement District (BID) which represents the interests of 575 levy-paying town centre premises, is pulling people into town this summer with The Place Theatre's series of outdoor arts activities. Under the BedfordBID Love Bedford banner, these events will encourage people into town day and night.

Bringing theatre and performing arts spectacle to a town centre location in Bedford and encouraging people to take advantage of local retail and culinary opportunities as part of a day of cultural, arts and leisure activity. Taking place around the Castle Mound site, located on Bedford's beautiful riverside in the heart of Bedford's culture and heritage quarter.

Love Bedford Outdoor Theatre Festival

Presenting the Love Bedford Outdoor Theatre Festival consisting of six individual theatrical performances taking place over four days on Castle Mound, Embankment, Bedford on 22nd-25th July 2014.

Tuesday 22nd July - Illyria present      -14:00pm  George's Marvellous Medicine {5+}

                                                            -19:00 pm Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance {5+}

 

Thursday 24th July - The Pantaloons present  -12:00pm The Tempest [THIS IS A FREE SHOW!] {5+}

                                                                        -17:00pm The Pantaloon's History of Britain

                                                                         [THIS IS A FREE SHOW!] {5+}

 

Friday 25th July - London Contemporary Theatre present -14:00pm Treasure Island {5+}

                                                                                         -19:00pm   A Midsummer Night's Dream {8+}

Covering the spectrum from Roald Dahl's 'George's Marvellous Medicine': a children's theatre shows aimed at 6-10 year olds to classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta 'The Pirates of Penzance'; perennially popular outdoor Shakespeare shows 'The Tempest' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'  and a family-friendly adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate adventure classic 'Treasure Island' and the hilarious 'The Pantaloon's History of Britain'. There's something for everyone from Grandpa to your littlest ones this summer.

All these shows will all have been specifically designed to be performed in outdoor spaces by professional actors. All shows offer a guaranteed performance in the case of wet weather. So whether the summer is a glorious hot one or a wet mess there's a guarantee of some hilarious outdoor theatre fun every single day that is perfect for the whole family.

Tickets for Tuesday/Friday performances:

Full Price - £10.00

Concessions - £7.50

(Concession tickets are available to persons over 60 years of age and unwaged)

Children - £5.00

(Children tickets are available to persons under 18 years of age or in full time education)

Family Ticket - £28.00

(Party of 4 - max. 2 Full price ticket per group)

Love Bedford Pop-Up Outdoor Cinema

A series of four Pop-Up Outdoor Cinema screenings taking place on Thursday evenings during August at the Archaeological Park, Castle Quay, Bedford. All the screenings are completely free to attend and take place outside.

The films will start just after sunset on each evening (falls between 8:00 and 9:00pm).

The film showings are as follows:

7th Aug - The Goonies (12)

14th Aug - Brief Encounter (PG)

21st Aug – Hard Day's Night (U) [OXJAM Fundraiser]

28th Aug – Labyrinth (U)

A programme of four films covering a broad cross section of genre from old to young. Cult classic from master puppeteer Jim Henson Labyrinth , British silver screen classic David Lean's Brief Encounter, family favourite adventure from Stephen Spielberg 'The Goonies'  and a 50th Anniversary screening of The Beatles 'Hard Day's Night' celebrating the best of British cinema.

Guaranteed to entertain all the family for free during the August evenings, a great way to watch films and enjoy the beautiful surroundings on Bedford's riverside.
