Harpur Centre Works Underway

11 April 2018

Today the Harpur Centre shared the first images of their vision for a new and exciting atrium, lift and stairway for the heart of the centre!

Centre Manager Sam Laycock said: “The whole team at the Harpur Centre are so excited to have started on our refurbishment works. We are investing millions of pounds to make the Harpur Centre the best that it can be and improve the shopping experience for everyone; we know that the works are an inconvenience, but all I can promise is that this is a short term pain for a fantastic long term gain.

Hoarding and screens were erected over the last few days as fundamental works start to change the atrium, remove the spiral, open up the basement and bring the centre into the 21st Century.
Erica Helmetag, Associate at Corstorphine + Wright Architects said:

“The refurbishment looks to breathe new life into the Harpur Centre and provide a contemporary shopping destination and experience for all its visitors. The changes will transform the centre’s environment, opening up the space in the heart of the centre”.

The works are expected to take around six months and the Centre are preparing plans and ideas to encourage people to pop in for exciting events, keep visiting to find out more and stay in touch to stay up to date with the new plans.

Sam continued:
“There are hundreds of staff here looking forward to the day when these computerised images become reality. So many people already choose to shop in Bedford, this is a fantastic town, steeped in a proud history and facing an exciting future.”
